Watching a show by Andrew WK is like going for a drink with your dumbest but most enthusiastic friend. The band looked like they’d been rounded up outside the venue that afternoon, every song sounded like the last one, Andrew WK played a terrible solo on a guitar shaped like a slice of pizza, they played the worst cover of Free Bird I’ve ever heard. But despite – or maybe because of – this, I didn’t see one person there that night who wasn’t having a ball. The crowd were a writhing mass throughout. By the end the crowd were on the stage and Andrew WK was in the crowd.
