Rogue Mag Music - Are we really putting up with this?

The video below is a perfect example of how bad some music has gotten. I swear we’re going to look back at this drivel with a hint of embaressement in years to come. You can’t tell me this is the best there is right now, its about time we move on from this dance pop nonsense, this mistaken nostalgia for the 80’s (It was bad then, even worse now) and rediscover people actually playing instruments, artists working together live, drawing the crowd along with their un-bridled passion for the music they play.

The Foo Fighters released Wasting Light last year, the entire album recorded on tape, no digital production, all the mistakes left in, and you know, it sounds more soulful and passionate than any of the polished trash we’re being offered. I’m not far off dropping to my knees and actually praying for a resurgence of great music, songs well written and produced not for mass consumption, but to give voice to the passion raging inside. It doesn’t have to be happy, it doesn’t even need to be well produced, it just needs to be GOOD.

Yes, yes, I know there are good artists out there right now and fond we are of all of them, but it is a fact that rock music in the UK is at its lowest popularity ever. Pop and dance are reigning – I don’t have an issue with good pop or dance, but what we’re getting is an insult to what music can be, what it should be.

The responsibility is ours. We are the consumers and we can dictate the market. Demand great music, boycot the inane. Actually go to see the bands you love. The industry will not recognize an act if they don’t build a good fan base. We are those fans, lets get them noticed.

This is a call to arms! You can either follow like a lamb to the theatre of medioctiry or take action and help support those artists who deserve it. The choice ours, lets be done with complacency.
