Rogue Mag Music - Danko Jones - Bring On The Mountain DVD collection review

Its high time the energetic rock powerhouse that is Danko Jones was given this level of recognition. Out on the 18th June, Bring On The Mountain is the ultimate Danko Jones DVD collection. The set includes a 90 minute documentary, short film featuring Lemmy, Elijah Wood and Selma Blair, all their music videos and a lot of live footage.

The Documentary ‘Bring On The Mountain’ chronicles the band’s rise to fame starting 12 years ago. We’re met with the standard mix of interviews, and original footage, nothing ground breaking there. In all honesty, the format is tried and relatively uninspiring but thats besides the point. What makes this a good watch is seeing the development of a star, even if you’re not a die-hard Danko Jones fan (and if not, where the hell have you been??) this is a must watch for all music lovers.

What amazes me is despite the outstanding tracks written by Jones, is that the band have yet to gain the widespread recognition they deserve. Respected within the industry and largely in scandinavia, Danko Jones has yet to gain the meteoric success they deserve. Just listen to ‘First Date’, ‘Code Of The Road’ or ‘Take Me Home’ and you’ll understand, even better, watch the music videos included in the box set.

Avoid the short film – its woeful. At least, it is if they’re taking themselves seriously in any way. Its not tongue-in-cheek enough to be laugh -out-loud funny, you’re left feeling like you’ve watched a higher budget film student short, tons of posturing, terrible script and awful acting. I think Elijah Woods does deserve some recognition for keeping a straight face whilst playing the cold and emotionless assassin (I wish I was joking). Fight For Your Right (Revisited) it is not.

This is a diamond in the rough, some sparkles of brilliance and a true gem to fans of hard rock. It might not have the polished finish of the Foo Fighters ‘Back and Forth’, but then again, what else would you expect from the Mango Kid?
