Time is elusive; savor the moment, appreciate simplicity, and breathe life into every task. This statement has become the backbeat to my life. It’s something that came to me recently and it’s not something I’ll be straying from any time soon. I wake up every morning with snowflakes in my head and a smile on my face. The crisp morning air fills my lungs and reminds me to appreciate even the smallest of things. I laugh to myself in appreciation as the sun sneaks over the mountains, races through the trees, and glistens in the water nearby. Like most early risers I have a coffee in hand and am preparing myself for what the day might bring.

Whistler is such a small town. I’ve only been here since april of this year and already it’s starting to seem like home. I’m greeted at the coffee shop with a smile and am asked, ‘the usual?’, which I still find amusing. Maybe I’m predictable or maybe a guy who’s missing a front tooth is hard to forget, but either way I enjoy the feedback I get from locals in this town. There are so many like minded people here, if you go around putting out good vibes all day you’ll be sure to get them in return. Everyone definitely feeds off one another.

Since arriving I’ve spent a lot of time being active. Snowboarding aside, theres so many lakes to swim in or float on, trails to hike, trails to bike, and if you’re a skid like me the skatepark will use up a lot of your spare time. Right now I’m living in the village so shredding my bmx down to Lost Lake for a morning stretch is something I often do. Rolling over to the skate park for an afternoon session is also starting to seem pretty natural. I am really fortunate to have all this at my fingertips and am greatly appreciative. Coming from a small town (Sydney, Nova Scotia) really puts emphasis on how fortunate I am to be in a place like this. Don’t get me wrong, back home we do have lakes, and a skate park or two, but things are just so spread out, and in small towns everything seems so unobtainable. It’s like I grew up in a place detached from the real world, where everything you hear about seems so grand and fairytale like. Now, after moving off the island and landing here in whistler, everything seems right there in front of you for the taking. If you want something you can actually put it in your sights and use motivation and hard work to pull the trigger.

I can’t even put into words how stoked I am to be here and how excited I am to see what this season has in store. All I know is I’m going to make the best of the time I have. Going into my fifth season I’ve finally gotten my thoughts where they need to be, so it doesn’t really matter how the coming months pan out, I’m going to enjoy everything either way. I’ll Be that guy who’s stoked on life singing rise against while he rides by in the pouring rain. In saying that, I do have fingers crossed for another amazing season. Every season is better than the last and today’s shredding one ups yesterday’s. Every day is your best day yet……If you choose to see it that way. On that note….It’s 11AM, the sun is shining, and i’m going to head down to the lake for a stretch. I’m sending wishes out to everyone for a sick season and shred on kiddies! -FF☮
