Rogue Mag Music - Marilyn Manson - The Pale Emperor review

It is refreshing when an artist returns with exciting and well accomplished material. The Pale Emperor isn’t as upbeat as some of Marilyn Manson’s previous outings such as MobScene or The Beautiful People, the music might not be as raunchy but don’t mistake that for worse.

Manson seems to be allowing his songs the time to unfold in satisfying style. Bass lines are still sexy and the darkness is ever present, exactly what you expect and desire. The guitar licks are familiar but this isn’t a rehashed pastiche of who Manson used to be. Don’t get me wrong, he’s moved on but there’s no doubt who your listening to. Shame about the music video, its terrible – boring and a poor reflection of the album.

Its good to hear other influences too, The album starts with a nod to the dark and haunting sounds of NIN dominated by a hard drum beat.

Rock music is back, firmly planting it’s boot clad feet in the music landscape, especially here in the UK. The Pale Emperor is a reinstatement of great rock music and a statement that it is in no way dead. Rock didn’t die, it was always with us, brooding in the shadows waiting to step back into focus.

If you love rock and are in any way a fan of Manson or indeed good music, get The Pale Emperor, now.
