Rogue Mag - Ministry Of Sound MOS006 headphones review

Ministry Of Sound have launched a new range of headphones and the MOS006 is part of this amazing collection. If you’re looking for a solid headset that delivers devastatingly smooth and rich bass without drowning the overall sound, the MOS006 headphones are for you.

There’s little doubt about the intention here, these aren’t for appreciating the nuances of a classical orchestral and neither are they well suited to acoustic or guitar driven music. The strong drive of the lower levels tends to pull the tone down. I would have preferred a little more sensitivity in the high spectrum just to bring out the shine on some tracks.

So if you’re looking for a general pair of headphones, I probably would go for something else.. However, if you’re after a pair to deliver some of the best club music sounds for this price, these are the headphones for you.

The build quality is great, the main body is cast in metal and the head band is covered in a thick layer of neoprene. They really do give you a sense of trust in the fact that you could drop these several times and not break them. They’re very comfortable to wear too, the earpieces have a super soft cover and the neoprene over the band feels comfortable and durable.

I like the mini jack connection in the left ear piece. A mini jack-to-jack cable is provided with the headset but having the connector on the headset means you could swap for a longer cable, during a gig for example. I have every confidence the MOS006 would be ideal for mixing. The coil in the cable is a nice feature, giving you a warning before pulling the socket out if you pull too far away.

There’s no hands free kit here, what you have here is a focused design, and I love them all the more for it.

Tracks listened to during testing:

  • Awolnation – Sail (Unlimited Gravity Remix): Perfection, absolutely no issues with the sound.
  • Steppenwolf – Magic Carpet Ride (Philip Steir Remix): Good sound, but the bass lines do cross over the vocals.
  • Janelle Monáe – Tightrope: Not so good, bass is all over the place, so much so it becomes distracting.
  • Tape Five Feat. Henrik Wager – Bad Boy Good Man (Aerophon Mix): Fantastic. Again, its all about the dance music with this headset.

Here’s what they have to say about them: “The high-grade anodised aluminium cups in these stylish headphones house two 50mm drivers that deliver unparalleled audio quality. The soft foam-coated split headband and classic sliding loop adjustment system work together to offer supreme comfort while maintaining a fresh urban look. A soft-touch/anti-tangle cable with curled accent blends functionality and style to complete this unique package. Available in four colours (black, silver/black gunmetal/black, gunmetal/orange)”

Priced at £39.99

Overall, I”m very happy with the MOS006 headphones. Ideally set up for appreciating dance music and even mixing at gigs, you feel that these will last a long time. They’re very comfortable to wear and I like the styling too, not too ‘out there’ but very cool at the same time.
