Thirty years ago, in 1980, Quiksilver launched the first ever stretch boardshort, with three decades of experience, reseach and development they’ve rustled up their latest creation – the Xpolsive.

Developed with scientists, these are the first boardshorts to use compression garments and taping together. Already tried and tested in other sports, football, athletics and swimming, the Xplosive shorts are designed to align the muscles used during surfing to their optimum position to enhance your performance.

The elastic banding works like a slingshot, aligning muscles so they are perfectly placed for the twisting and driving motions of bottom and top turns. The banding is designed to centralise your core over the sweet spot of your surfboard, so as you release your turn the shorts encourage your centre of gravity back to where it should be. While the Xplosive short has been designed in conjunction with sports scientists, they are first and foremost about surfing. The result is greater amplitude and flair in your turns, and more seamless transition between them – ergo, better surfing.

Big claims, time will tell whether they actually make a difference to your surfing. One thing that is for sure, they look good, real good, no doubt they’ll be the latest surfing fashion statement.
