Josh Bryceland from Manchester beat a stellar cast of 70 of Britain’s top amateur and professional mountain-bikers to be crowned Red Bull Weavers champion in the small town of Frome, Somerset.Red Bull Weavers is the first ever dual crop slalom mountain bike race, with some of Britain’s emerging amateur talent going head to head with some of the world’s top riders.

Bryceland set a blistering time of 21.96 seconds to clinch top spot ahead of the likes of Kye Forte, creator of Red Bull Empire of Dirt, and course creator Dave Wardell.“It’s been such a great day, the weather has been awesome and the competition has been so strong. I never thought riding through a corn field would be so much fun,” said Bryceland.

Trailing just behind in a close second was Lewis Lacey from Bournemouth, with odds-on favourite Wardell from Whitby claiming the final place on the podium. Twelve custom made 29” rides specifically created for the event allowed the riders to reach speeds of up to 30mph as they cut through the wheat. “The whole event today has been amazing, we have seen some brilliant riding from all the competitors, especially some of the amateur guys really pushing the professionals to the limits,” said Nick Larson of the bike creation team.
