So after leaving home in 2010 to pursue a career as a draftsman in New Zealand, I found myself with a stack of opportunities to take advantage of the amazing landscapes of NZ. I can go get a surf in at Taylor’s Mistake in the morning and check out the mountain tops of the southern alps for ski session later that afternoon. I live at the base of the Port Hills which are full of technical downhill and cross country trails that all begin a 5 minute ride from my front door.
There are 7 varieties of skate park all within a 20 minute ride or 5 minute drive from my front porch… and there are some slammin sushi bars about as well!! We normally ride the Woolston pool and then move over to Linwood park and then Bromley half pipe and once in a while we’ll swing over to Heathcote trails if the wind isn’t up. We’re really lucky for spots and it shows in anyone’s riding after some regular visits. All the locals down here are rippers.
Its been a rocky time here in Christchurch. Since I arrived just In time for the February 2011 earthquakes that were nearly enough destroy the city, it was a long time before I got to ride anything. After the earthquakes and the thousands of aftershocks that followed I was pretty tied down with work, assessing buildings and drafting the repair or rebuild docs….doesn’t really give you much of an opportunity to go ride some trails. But since the start of our summer (NZ) I’ve been out as much as possible with a few awesome sessions along the way. Only recently have I started to ride half pipe but its by far the most satisfying. Keepin it smooth!!
I was lucky enough to bump into a top Czech chap called Karel and he called me up and was keen to grab a few shots of some BMX stuff. So there I was with a small hand full of shots with no one to give them to but my good mates at Rogue Mag!! So enjoy the shots, I’m sure there will be more.
See you all soon,
