Having recently graced Solus at Cardiff University earlier on in the year in April, the Twin Atlantic boys are back; this time over the bridge at Bristol’s o2 Academy, where they are almost through another headlining tour. The Glaswegian four piece rock band annouced at the end of their Spring tour that they would return on a 10 day UK headline tour this Autumn, featuring support from Dead Sara and Charlie Simpson.

Sam McTrusty and Co. enter the stage at around 21:25 after a surprisingly pleasant support slot from the ex-Busted turned acoustic indie singer songwriter Charlie Simpson, to an absolutely packed to the rafters venue. The crowd’s cheers are deafening over McTrusty’s distinct vocals, as the band launch in to the first track of the night, “Apocalyptic Renegade” from current album “Free”. The evening sees some more epic performances, including singles “Yes, I was Drunk” and “Free”, as well as a gorgeous acoustic rendition of album track “Crash Land”, featuring guitarist Barry McKenna on cello, and pretty much the entire crowd on lead vocals. The band go on to delight us with EP track “Lightspeed” and a beautiful sole acoustic performance of the Beatles classic “All my Loving”, as well as new track “Brothers and Sisters”, which goes down very well with the full capacity audience. The boys are on absolute fire belting out hit after hit to an incredibly excited fan base.

The evening must draw to an end, however, and just before the encore finale, McTrusty gives a heartfelt speech about how it is a dream come true to play to a packed out o2 Academy, and for a minute it looks very much like he might cry… This isn’t to be though as the band launch into their last track of the gig, “Make a Beast of Myself”, which sees the crowd going truly “f**king mental”, and ends with McTrusty (literally) launching himself into the crowd!

The TA lads bid us a fond farewell and promise to see us in the New Year with new material which, quite frankly, everyone cannot wait for.
