Today Years & Years are proud to reveal the video to their new single ‘King’, which follows on from their BBC Sound Of win and the selling-out of their June 12th Shepherds Bush Empire show – which sold-out within 10 minutes of going on sale last Friday morning.
Choreographed by Ryan Heffington – who worked on Sia’s ‘Chandelier’, Arcade Fire’s ‘We Exist’ and FKA Twigs’ ‘Video Girl’ – and directed by Nadia (Rae Morris, The 1975), the clip sees Olly, Emre and Mikey lost in the subdued suburbs of LA, on which Olly says the following:
“Ryan got in touch a while ago to say he was a fan of our music, I’d been an admirer of his work so we met up and we instantly hit it off. As a band we’ve always wanted to use choreography in a video – something that was a bit more unusual and I knew Ryan would be the guy to work with. The initial idea came from the meaning of the song, feeling controlled by somebody and wanting them to let you go. We were lucky enough to shoot the video in LA with a bunch of ridiculously talented and nice people, I’m really thankful to all the crew, Nadia for her excellent directing eyes, Ryan, and all the dancers who did such a great job”
With the band going from strength to strength, ‘King’ will be released on March 1st through Polydor Records and comes during their sold-out debut UK headline tour.
