I wasn’t sure what to make of this, I consider myself an aficionado of music with a good sense of whats good and bad but this band had me stumped – are they post punk neo 80’s or a rehashed idea thats past its peddle-by-date?

So I asked Kieran, he seems to know his way around such bands. I wish I could take the credit for his response:

I think I’m more inclined to go with your second thought. Revivals can be great and work sucessfully, but for me this is a really, really lazy throwback. They seem to have just taken ‘tears for fears’ and stuck some more complex time signatures on top of it. I think it’s naff, and these type of people anger me cos I don’t want the prime of my life to be defined by all that was shite about the eighties. It’s like sticking a usb drive on a walkman……updating something that is obsolete, and the video also reminds me of this haha………….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_5uVdy5YmA

Despite that, some are going to enjoy this record, so here’s the details:

‘Tough Times’ is the spectacular sophomore single by London’s Personal Space Invaders (PSI). Combining upbeat synth-driven pop sounds with elements of new-wave indie, electro and post-punk, PSI are set to release their synth infused 80s driven pop manifesto in the form of ‘Tough Times’ on the 30th May.

Personal Space Invaders comprise of Will Durzu and Timothy Walters, who came together through their discovery for a passion of “seething electronics and dirty beats”. Meeting in London through various musical outfits the duo immediately locked themselves away to create and craft their musical mould of electro; referencing bands such as New Order, Dépêche Mode and Joy Division, whilst mixing dark, demure atmospheres with a strong dance elements, which flickers with moments of modern pop.

The band’s debut single ‘Not My Boyfriend’ received radio support from Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw and James Theaker of NME Radio. As well as various radio support the band have also been known for their raucous live shows, involving forms of audience participation and extreme energy. These extrovert antics led T4 presenter Rick Edwards to describe Personal Space Invaders as one of his favourite live act of 2010.

‘Tough Times’ will be digitally released by the band on 30th May 2011 and will also include a remix of ‘Tough Times’ by Max Ling and previously unreleased track ‘Working’.
